Argentine Farm Talks Scheduled

Farm leaders and the government will meet Thursday evening.

Argentine farmer workers ended their nationwide strike Wednesday protesting an increase in grain export taxes. Workers have held strikes off and on for the last couple months, including a three-week strike in March that stopped traffic and led to food shortages in some areas.

Attempts to negotiate between farm leaders and the government have failed twice, with strikes resuming after negotiations broke down. According to Alberto Fernandez the Argentine Cabinet chief, another round of negotiations between the two sides has been scheduled Thursday evening. He says he hopes to establish a dialogue and find a way out of the situation.
