Farmers traveling to the 2014 fall farm shows will have a new tractor from Challenger to look at. The MT500E large-frame tractors include five models ranging from 185 to 255 maximum hp.
Power for the line comes from a new line of Agco Power 6.6- and 7.4-liter diesel engines that meet Tier 4b emissions standards. The new 6-cylinder engines meet the standard using selective catalytic reduction technology – which requires the addition of diesel exhaust fluid along with a diesel oxidation catalyst.
The common-rail diesel engines allowed Agco engineers to run the engines hotter to keep DEF consumption lower. A single-stage turbo charger with an electronic wastegate – which is also used on larger series Challenger machines – provides more low-range torque.
The series is available with either a CVT or AutoPower VI transmission. The CVT option provides 25 extra boosted hp, which is power provided beyond maximum hp. More power brings along a beefier hydraulics system. CVT models can be ordered with a hydraulic flow rate of up to 50 gpm.
The cab has been restyled for more commonality with the 600 series. Front axle suspension is more than twice what it was before for a smoother ride. Learn more about the machines by visiting www.challenger-ag.us.
