Dry Conditions Plague Wheat Crop

Southern plains wheat crop continues to decline.

Texas and Oklahoma continue to see dry weather which is hindering not only emergence of winter wheat but also the condition of the crop, according to USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey.

"Looking at the four week time trace for the Texas wheat percentage rated poor to very poor; that number has increased from 29 to 40 to 47 and now to 53%," Rippey says. "For Oklahoma that number has gone from 20 to 24 and jumping up to 30% this week."

With the tight world supply of wheat, the poor condition of the crop in the southern plains will have a significant impact on the wheat market in the coming year.
