Electric Loans Awarded by USDA

More than $1.6 billion is being loaned to electric cooperatives in 13 states.

Loans from the USDA will provide the funding of 1,500 miles of new electric lines, the upgrade of 1,000 miles of existing lines and help cooperatives in 13 states improve transmission and generation facilities for rural consumers.

"USDA Rural Development's investment in the nation's rural electric system provides safe, reliable electricity to rural electric cooperatives, which in turn power homes and businesses," acting Secretary of Agriculture Conner said. "These loans contribute to a vibrant rural America."

Over two-thirds of the funds being loaned will be used for environmental emission control equipment for four electric cooperatives.
