Farmers Invited To Western Iowa 2013 Ag Summit

Farmers and other ag professionals are invited to attend January 24 and learn more about how to survive in a volatile ag economy.

In the midst of current economic uncertainty, both crop and livestock farmers are faced with making critical decisions that will determine whether they will be farming in the future. To help address important financial and risk management issues relevant to agriculture today, TS Bank in western Iowa is offering farmers and other agriculture  professionals the chance to attend the bank's 2013 Ag Summit. It will be held Thursday, January 24, at the Community Center in Treynor, Iowa.

RISK MANAGEMENT IS JOB #1: In the midst of economic uncertainty, crop and livestock farmers are both faced with big decisions these days. Producers who attend the TS Bank 2013 Ag Summit will take home information on how to manage risk and make the major game changer decisions that will help them stay on the agricultural landscape.

The event is made possible with the cooperation of co-sponsors such as NAU Country, A&M Greenpower, Farm Service Company and SIRE. The seminar will offer valuable information to help producers and others involved in agriculture. Speakers will address key topics relevant to farming today in the global marketplace.

This year's keynote speaker is Dr. David M. Kohl, professor emeritus in the ag economics department at Virginia Tech University. He will discuss major game changers influencing the agriculture landscape along with a quick tour of current economic trends occurring in various places in the world and explain how these developments are influencing land values, commodity prices and input costs.

Financial management practices that can help manage risk in decision making

Ag economist Kohl will also give tips on financial management practices that will help you think globally but act locally in strategic and everyday decision making. His personal involvement with agriculture and interaction with key industry players provide a unique perspective into the future trends of the agricultural industry and the farm economy.

TS Bank's Kevin Forristall, vice president of risk analytics, will also be presenting at the ag summit, speaking about risk management. "In this free seminar, ag producers, business leaders, and agriculture advocates have an opportunity to learn about the transition and impact of agriculture, and how to implement vital management tools for their businesses," says Forristall.

The event is set for Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Treynor Community Center. Registration is free and a complimentary lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so call today and register. Invite a neighbor or friend. You can register online at or call TS Bank at 712-487-300, but be sure to reserve your seat. The sponsors of the event would like you to register by January 20.
