Iowa Corn Growers Award "Future of Agriculture" Scholarships

Iowa Corn Growers Association awards 10 scholarships to high school seniors and college students for 2013-14.

Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board are proud to announce 10 scholarships to be awarded through the Iowa Corn Future of Agriculture Scholarship program to high school seniors and college students for the 2013-14 school year.

"Iowa Corn is committed to the future of agriculture and our young farmers play a large part in sustaining the industry, which is why we look forward to seeing them grow and become advocates for our business," says Bob Hemesath, a farmer from Calmar and chair of the Iowa Corn committee that oversees the scholarship program.

CULTIVATING THE FUTURE: Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board sponsor 10 scholarships each year for high school students and college students who are pursuing degrees in agriculture. "We look forward to seeing these young people grow and become advocates for the business of farming," says Bob Hemesath, a northeast Iowa farmer and ICGA leader.

The Iowa Corn Future of Agriculture Scholarship program awards five $500 first-year scholarships and five $500 upperclassman scholarships to individuals who are pursuing degrees that will equip them to contribute to the agriculture industry in Iowa. The program is sponsored by the Iowa Corn Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Promotion Board. Applications were judged by a selection committee and applicants were evaluated on their essays, applications, letters of reference, and their current grades and activities. Applicants are also members of the Iowa Corn Growers Association or a dependent of a member.

The following students will be awarded $500 scholarships and will be recognized at the Iowa Corn annual meeting in August.

* High school senior scholarship winners: Lexi Marek, Riverside; Nick Boehm, Elgin; Scott Schroeder, LeMars; Brad Pickhincke, Sac City; Eric Henry, Nevada.

* College scholarship winners: Adam Striegel, What Cheer; Carley Christiansen,  Hampton; Sarah Tweeten, Kensett; Christina Riessen, Schleswig; Marcie Stevenson, Wheatland.

The Iowa Corn Promotion Board, or ICPB, works to develop and defend markets, fund research, and provide education about corn and corn products. The Iowa Corn Growers Association or ICGA is a membership organization lobbying on agricultural issues on behalf of its over 7,000 farmer members. Both organizations work on the joint mission to create opportunities for long-term Iowa corn grower profitability. For more information click here.
