Hay and pasture management will be focus of the Iowa Forage and Grassland Council's 2007 annual meeting Nov. 19-20 at the Des Moines Airport Holiday Inn.
Registration for the conference begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 19, followed by a round table discussion of current industry issues at 7 p.m. The conference resumes Nov. 20 with registration at 9 a.m., followed by morning breakout sessions which begin at 9:30 a.m.
Timely hay, forage topics to be covered
Topics include finishing cattle on grass with ethanol coproducts, managing soils and water in pasture systems, how to figure the true value of hay, state and federal programs available to producers, pay-offs of grazing management and alfalfa fertility management.
Afternoon sessions will discuss the best use of marginal farm ground, experiences with teff grass and sorghum-sudan crosses, custom grazing, linking grazing with wildlife and recreational land use, protecting water quality with grazing, and evaluating mold and mycotoxins in hay.
