Iowa State to hold 2015 Weed Science Field Day

ISU's 2015 Weed Science Field Day is scheduled for June 25 at the Curtiss Farm in Ames.

Iowa State University's 2015 Weed Science Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, June 25 at the Curtiss Farm at 2219 State Ave. in Ames. The self-guided field day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the public.

The event hosted by ISU will provide an opportunity to view new innovations in weed management. The event will include research and development industry personnel who will be available to discuss proprietary herbicides. Refreshments will be available. WHAT'S NEW IN WEED CONTROL? Taking a look at new herbicides for weed control in corn and soybeans, ISU holds its annual Weed Science Field Day at Ames. A number of new products containing multiple active ingredients are being evaluated in ISU plots.

Directions to Curtiss Farm on South State Street: Exit US 30 at University Boulevard and turn south to the first stop sign. Turn right (west) on Oakwood and proceed to the first stop sign which will be a "T" intersection. Turn right (north) on State Street to the Curtiss Farm entrance. Turn left (west) and follow the cinder road to the field day tent.

Online review course for Iowa Certified Crop Adviser Exam
In other ISU news, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, with support from the Iowa Certified Crop Advisers Board, has developed an online review course for individuals taking the Iowa Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) examination. The course consists of four modules included in the exam:   
1. crop management
2. pest management
3. nutrient management
4. soil and water management

Each module includes narrated presentations by subject matter specialists, practice quizzes, and supplemental materials that provide additional information for that topic area. The course also includes a practice exam that may be attempted three times. The registration fee for the online review course is $100 and is available for online purchase here.

The next CCA exam is scheduled for August 7, 2015. Registration for the exam is done through the National CCA Organization and ends June 26, 2015. Registration for the CCA exam and the ISU Extension and Outreach online review course are not connected and should be purchased separately. The online review course materials will be accessible until the day of the August exam.
