New Dairy Web Site Helps Iowa Producers

The online connection gives dairy farmers access to a world of helpful information.

Iowa State University Extension is providing information to a new Internet-based resource for America's dairy producers, industry partners, cooperative Extension employees and American consumers. The dairy cattle Web site, DAIReXNET, a segment of the national extension partnership eXtension (pronounced e-extension), was launched recently at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.

"The national eXtension site gives Iowa dairy producers additional information. The information on eXtension is peer-reviewed and that is Extension's forte," says Leo Timms, ISU Extension dairy specialist. Timms has provided answers to frequently asked questions and ask-an-expert inquiries on the site. He says there are many sites and a great deal of information on the Web, but this site provides research-based unbiased information. "Producers and consumers can get immediate answers in the frequently asked questions section," says Timms. "Even the ask an expert inquiries are answered very quickly." ISU Extension is one of more than 70 land-grant universities involved in eXtension. The national Web resource helps Americans improve their lives with access to timely, objective, research-based information and educational opportunities. The eXtension site,, is customized with links to local Cooperative Extension Service Web sites.

The dairy cattle site is the sixth launched as a part of the eXtension initiative. The other topic sites cover horses, personal finance, wildlife damage management, entrepreneurship and fire ants. Americans can access the information at
