Northey to visit Chickasaw, Howard, and Mitchell Counties

Visits part of act by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture to have a town meeting in all 99 counties.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that he will be visiting three counties in north-central Iowa on Thursday, July 19 and Friday, July 20, 2007 to listen to Iowans, discuss the opportunities available in agriculture and answer any questions area residents might have. The stops are part of Northey's effort to have a town meeting in each of Iowa's 99 counties.

Northey will be visiting New Hampton, Cresco and Osage.

"I think it's important to make myself available to listen to Iowans and answer their questions about agriculture and the issues facing farmers across the state," Northey said. "I hope all interested parties, farmers and non farmers alike, will come out and take part in the discussion."

Howard County native and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Norman Borlaug received the Congressional Gold Medal at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, July 17 and Northey wanted to visit the area to recognize Dr. Borlaug's service.
