The Ose family of Blairsburg was recognized last week as recipients of the 'Gary Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award' during a ceremony at the Titan Machinery dealership near Williams, a town in north central Iowa.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey presented the Carroll and Judy Ose family with the award in front of more than 70 family members, friends and neighbors.
"Our parents were actively engaged in farming for many years and both families were great farmers and exceptional neighbors," says Carroll Ose. "You might say Judy and I both had great role models growing up and we followed their lead to not only be good farmers, but good neighbors as well."
The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor award, sponsored by the Coalition to Support Iowa's Farmers (CSIF), recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in doing things right. This includes caring for the environment and their livestock and being good neighbors.
This award recognizes a farm family's strong commitment to the community and to their neighbors
The Oses have a wean-to-finish swine barn as well as operate a row-crop farm in Hamilton County. Randy Greufe nominated the Oses for the award for being a great farm family that has a strong commitment to the community and their neighbors. "The Oses represent what the Gary Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award is all about – going above and beyond what is expected of them on their farm, in their neighborhood and their community," says Greufe.
"It's great to recognize a farm family like the Oses who are so involved in their community and so passionate about helping others. The Ose family is another example of a great farm family that is passionate about doing things right with their land, livestock, neighbors and the community," says CSIF executive director, Brian Waddingham.
You can nominate someone you know who deserves to receive this award
The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award, presented by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Iowa Ag Radio Network in partnership with CSIF, is presented nine times annually to an Iowa farm family who raises livestock. It's given in honor of distinguished WHO Radio farm broadcaster Gary Wergin and recognizes families who take pride in being good neighbors and stewards of the land.
