Pork Promotion Was the Name of the Game in October

Truman said presidents should be familiar with raising hogs.

The Illinois Pork Producers Association did its fair share to promote the hog business during October Pork Month.

As part of Pork Month, IPPA partnered with 24 Culver's restaurants to provide customers a coupon worth one dollar off the purchase of any Culver's Pork Menu Value Basket during October.

In addition, IPPA gave students from Chicago's Clara Barton School an opportunity to experience life on a hog farm firsthand. IPPA also hosted an online competition that has awarded weekly prize packages of popular pork cuts to visitors who correctly answer questions about the pork industry.

With the presidential election around the corner, IPPA executive director Jim Kaischuk reminds voters to remember a quote by President Harry Truman.

"President Harry Truman once said, 'No man should be allowed to be President who does not understand hogs,'" notes Kaitschuk. "President Truman raised hogs as a young boy, so he knew that producing food requires dedication, hard work and innovative leadership. Illinois pork producers have made it their life work to understand and care for the well-being of the animals on their farms."
