Russia Sets Poultry Import Quotas

Pork and beef quotas unchanged.

The USA Poultry and Egg Export Council says, according to a Russian official, Russia will cut in half its poultry import quota for 2011 to 350,000 metric tons. Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov is quoted as saying they had left pork and beef quotas unchanged.

USAPEEC expects final details to be ironed out and likely announced Wednesday, at a special Russian government meeting. Among those details, the mechanism of quota distribution to importers.

U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Beyrle said, "We understand that Russia is developing its own poultry production, which is normal and logical. However, we know that our product is also having success with Russian consumers."
