HOMES FOR HUMANITY: Sukup Manufacturing Co. based at Sheffield, Iowa is 50 years old this year. The grain bin and grain handling equipment maker helped raise money to provide 50 "Safe T Homes" to people in poor areas of the world. The goal for this project was to raise enough for 25 homes; but the fundraising effort ended up with enough donations to provide 50 homes.

Earlier this year, Sukup pledged to match donations 1 for 1; for a total of 50 homes. The goal for the "50 Homes for Humanity" campaign has been met, the company announced on November 20. Not only has the money been raised, but the homes are already on their way to help people in need in the Philippines and Kenya.

Many fundraising events were held this year to drum up donations to help pay for manufacturing and delivery of the Safe T Homes

Many events were organized to drive donations for the campaign in 2013. Events included a celebrity golf tournament; 50 Homes Week, an event for Sukup employees; and Homes for Haiti, an event sponsored by churches in the Mason City, Iowa area. The Safe T Home was also displayed at farm shows, including the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Ill., and Husker Harvest in Grand Island, Neb., as well as at the Iowa Speedway throughout the racing season. Donations were also received at the Sukup Slicer employee golf tournament.

Sukup Safe T Homes are engineered structures that are suitable for all phases of recovery effort. They are quick and easy to construct, making them ideal for emergency situations. The all-steel construction makes the Sukup Safe T Home perfect for longer-term use, since they are weather-proof, fire-proof, and termite-proof. They are also movable, making them well-suited to transitional shelter needs. The round shape of the Safe T Home allows the unit to withstand high winds. They are also virtually earthquake proof.
