Iowa State University Extension will offer manure applicator certification workshops for dry manure operators on seven different dates and locations in February. The certification workshop is for both confinement site manure applicators (private applicators such as farmers) and commercial manure applicators who primarily apply dry or solid manure—as opposed to liquid.
"The information in this workshop will benefit not only those people who are needing certification, but anyone using dry or solid sources of manure," says Angie Rieck-Hinz, coordinator of the Manure Applicator Certification Program. "There is a lot of good, useful information you can learn at these meetings and take home and put to work in your own farming and livestock operation or in your commercial manure applicator service - -if you are in that business."
Learn latest recommendations on manure use, get updated on rules
Workshop topics will include land application rules, new rules, stockpiling requirements, a quick review of winter application laws and manure nitrogen issues. The workshops are free to attend and open to all who are interested. Applicators will be required to submit certification forms and fees to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to meet manure applicator certification requirements. Each workshop will begin at 1 p.m. Please register for one of the workshops by calling the number listed with the selected site. Workshop locations around Iowa and dates are:
