New active ingredient for burndown

DowAgrosciences launches Elevore for 2017 season, adding more burndown power for glyphosate-resistant weeds.

Among the list of pesky glyphosate-resistant weeds is marestail, which can be quite a competitor to crops. Dow AgroSciences has announced the pending registration of a new tool - Elevore herbicide - that can provide control of many glyphosate and ALS-resistant weeds, including marestail up to 8 inches tall, chickweed and henbit.

The product is designed to work as a new tool in your burndown to control the weeds before they can compete with the crop. Elevore is a premix of Arylex active and a new Group 4 growth regulator herbicide developed by Dow AgroSciences. Arylex is a systematic herbicide that controls weeds from the inside out, which can eliminate the regrowth of targeted plants.

BURN IT DOWN: Elevore from DowAgrosciences offers solid control of marestail, especially when tank-mixed with 2,4-D (far right).

Jeff Ellis, field scientist, Dow AgroSciences, in a product release, explains that when Elevore was tank-mixed with 2,4-D it delivered 97% control of glyphosate-resistant marestail when applied in a preplant burndown program ."We targeted glyphosate-resistant marestail between five and eight inches in field trials and have seen superior control of this weed species," Ellis says. "Elevore provided excellent activity on marestail across a wide range of geographies and at various heights, including 8-inch-tall marestail."

Elevore has yet to receive its EPA registration, but Dow AgroSciences says when it comes to market it is anticipated the herbicide will be labeled for application with commonly used residual and burndown tank-mix partners, including glyphosate, 2,4-D, up to 14 days before planting soybeans in the Midwest. Registration is expected for the 2017 season. Learn more at
